Why Early Access, and why this game took 13 years

1666: Amsterdam was originally in development at THQ Montréal back in 2012. THQ collapsed, Ubisoft bought the studio, Désilets was dismissed, and the project sat frozen until he won the rights back in 2016. Panache Digital Games — a small independent studio — is releasing in Early Access to fund and shape the rest of development with players. The full saga is covered here.

FAQ

When does 1666: Amsterdam come out?

Early Access begins on Steam (PC) on August 25, 2026. That is a real, playable release you can buy — not a beta signup.

What does Early Access mean here?

You buy and play the game while Panache Digital Games keeps building it. Content will grow through updates until the full 1.0 release. Expect rough edges and changing systems — that is the deal with Early Access.

When is the full (1.0) release date?

Panache has not announced a 1.0 date as of August 24, 2026. We will update this page the moment an official date exists.

Is there a demo I can play right now?

Yes — a free prologue is available on Steam. It covers the opening of Noa's story and is the best way to test both the tone and your PC before buying.

What time does 1666: Amsterdam unlock on August 25?

Panache has not published an exact unlock hour. Steam releases typically unlock between 10 AM and 1 PM Pacific Time (1-4 PM Eastern). We will post the confirmed time here on launch day.
